CHENNAI: In 29 toll booths in Tamil Nadu, today (April 01) increase in toll fees ranging from 5%-10% came into force.

The National Highways Authority has given permission to increase the tolls at each toll booth once a year. Accordingly, the fare hike has come into effect at 27 toll booths since last night. Accordingly, the fee has been increased from five rupees to 25 rupees.

Vanakaram has been looted in Chennai and tolls have been hiked at Nallur Mathur toll booths. The fare hike has been implemented despite protests from vehicle owners. Due to this, omni bus fares are likely to increase. Toll booths have been set up at 54 places on Tamil Nadu National Highways and toll collection is in progress.
