TN govt announces Rs 1,000 as Pongal gift for ration card holders

Tokenization of Pongal gift collection has started from January 3.

On the occasion of Pongal festival, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin announced that family card holders and residents of Sri Lankan Tamil camps will be given Pongal gift packages of Rs.1,000 cash, one kg of rice, sugar and one whole sugarcane each.

For this, a fund of Rs.2,430 crore has been allocated and an ordinance has been issued. A total of 2,19,33,342 beneficiaries are given Pongal gift package.

What’s in the Pongal Gift Package?

  • 1000 cash for ration shop users
  • 1 kg tamarind
  • 1 kg of sugar
  • Whole sugar cane

In particular, based on the number of street-wise family cards, arrangements should be made to provide supplies to 200 to 250 family cards daily. According to this, the token issuance process for the prize package has started from January 3. Ration shop workers distribute specially prepared tokens from door to door.

To prevent family card holders from flocking to ration shops at the same time to buy gift packages for Pongal, tokens will be distributed door to door from Jan. 3 to Jan. 8. As Chief Minister Stalin launched the scheme on 9th, the employees have been instructed to deliver the goods as per the date and time mentioned in the token.

Alankanallur: Pongal prize was given to Deivambayanali, the head of the cooperative society, in Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Union at 15-B Mettupatti, Alankanallur Union, Madurai District. 1000 rupees thousand, tamarind and sugarcane. Subsequently, 1739 beneficiaries will be provided. In this, many people including Secretary Duraisingam participated.
