Krishnagiri district

The heavy rains in Krishnagiri district have left parts of Utthankarai looking like a flooded forest. The northeast monsoon and Cyclone Fangel are lashing various districts in Tamil Nadu.

Although the storm has weakened and passed the coast, it has been raining continuously in Krishnagiri district for 14 hours, especially in Utthankarai and Pochampally areas. Due to this, the Pambar dam has reached its full capacity and 15,000 cubic feet of water is being released from the dam per second. Rainwater has entered houses in areas like Kamaraj Nagar and Kennedy Nagar in Utthankarai city.

The lake near Utthankarai bus stand has reached its full capacity and the excess water is overflowing on the Tirupattur road, causing the road to be blocked. Vehicles parked there are submerged in water. Similarly, due to the excess water from Pambar Dam being released, the Tiruvannamalai road has also been flooded, causing traffic to be disrupted.

The Krishnagiri-Utthankarai road has also been flooded. The entire Utthankarai area has been disrupted. People in the area where the rain water entered have been evacuated and are being accommodated in a nearby camp.Disaster relief teams led by Krishnagiri District Collector K.M. Sarayu are engaged in rescue operations.

As the rain has gradually subsided, rescue operations are being expedited. Krishnagiri district has received unprecedented heavy rain in 15 hours. 50 cm of rain has been recorded in the Utthankarai area alone.

Rainwater has accumulated in various areas in the Pochampally area. Water levels are filling up rapidly. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges today.

Krishnagiri District Collector Sarayu has also announced a telephone number of 1077 for emergency assistance on behalf of the district administration. Krishnagiri District Collector has said that if you contact this number in any emergency, you will be provided with the necessary assistance.
