Small fishes were bought and released in the river on behalf of Kanmayil villagers of Pandavarmangalam village near Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district Tamil Nadu.

Now that the fishes were well grown, the fish catch festival was organized. After this, the people of the village enthusiastically participated in the fishing festival which started today and started fishing.

They caught fish with available materials like fishing nets, umbrellas and plastic drums. Boys, girls and adults all participated and caught fish. They caught various types of fish including fingerling, cutlach.

Most of them caught 5 to 7 kg of fish. Common people distributed fish to those who could not catch them.

The villagers have said that they have conducted the fishing festival to emphasize the unity of the villagers.
